The Kapellen depot is situated in the Fortress of Kapellen.
This fortress is part of the old Antwerp defence perimeter.
The Fortress was build at the end of the 19th century as a railway defence fortress.
This was to protect the Antwerp-Roosendaal railway as well the connection that leads to the Brasschaat military barracks.
After WW2 hangars were build around the Fortress.
Starting from 1994 the bulk of the RAM collection is stored here.
